I recommend you also check Pratunam for shoes (where they have the Platinum Fashion center). Sampeng is good if you come with friends and you go on a joint-shoe shopping trip so you can take advantage of their wholesale prices, but otherwise Pratunam offers a lot more choice and is quite cheap too :-)

Hi,
I chanced upon your blog and I have to say you provide a really good information on the shoe shops along sampeng!
I would love to buy some shoes at your mentioned shops and I just like to know where is the start of sampeng lane that you mentioned? And also, is it worth a visit to Balanna Plaza if I am looking for ladies shoes?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Edward,
thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, I guess they make enough money from people who walk by and buy once that they don't need repeat customers.
The Shangri La makes good (but not awesome) dumplings, although they are rather pricey. It's located on Yaowarat Road at the corner of Rajchawong.

Another place where you can get great sarabao (these buns with the big white dough around it) is now on the food court of the Platinum Fashion mall in Pratunam (it's the last shop in a corner). That's a bit away, but if you're in the vicinity worth checking out.

However, as far as dumplings in general are concerned, Bangkok can't compare to Chinese cities or Singapore :-/
